Chaos, complexity, and creative behavior.

چکیده
The element of surprise and the suddenness of insight make the study of creative behavior a prime candidate for concepts and methods from nonlinear dynamical systems (NDS) theory. The first contribution in this area, as nearly as we can discern, was chance-configuration theory (Simonton, 1988), which explained how random flows of idea elements self-organize into the core of a solution to a problem. Further developments in NDS theory and supporting empirical studies expanded to other aspects of the individual and group problem solving processes (Guastello, 2002). Not surprisingly, the flows of ideas that were initially thought to be random were often chaotic, and thus more structured than first appearances might suggest. Creativity phenomena are often parsed into the 4 Ps: person, process, product, and press. Person variables include cognitive abilities, cognitive style, personality, and other individual differences involved in creative behaviors. Process variables include brainstorming and other group or social dynamics. Product variables are usually features of the artwork or invention. Press refers to the manner in which the new idea or innovation spreads. This special issue of NDPLS contains the latest wave of findings that span all four facets of creative behavior. We have three new contributions in the category of person issues. Stamovlasis examines the insight process among chemistry students as they progress from simple to more complex challenges, and the roles of field dependence-independence and cognitive complexity. Hristovski, Davids, Araujo, and Passos examine the origins of creative ideas in sports movements, which is a new realm of study for creative behavior. Creative professionals have elevated incidence rates of substance abuse and mental illness; Zausner considers from an artist’s perspective the interplay between the underlying disorder and the generation of original creative imagery. In the category of process topics, Wisdom and Goldstone explore the human version of collective intelligence in group creativity. In doing so, they expand the principles of collective intelligence that were identified from studies of social insects (Sulis, 1997, 2009). Leadership also plays a role in bringing

Development of Fluency, Accuracy, and Complexity in Productive Skills of EFL learners across Gender and Proficiency: A Chaos Complexity Approach
This study was an attempt to investigate the developmental rate of fluency, accuracy and complexity among 12 EFL learners within the framework of chaos complexity theory. To carry out this study, 6 female and 6 male participants in two levels of proficiency (pre-and upper-intermediate) were put in two classes taught by the same teacher and following the same course. Every two months (for a peri...

Sciences exist to demonstrate the fundamental order underlying nature. Chaos/complexity theory is a novel and amazing field of scientific inquiry. Notions of our everyday experiences are somehow in connection to the laws of nature through chaos/complexity theory’s concerns with the relationships between simplicity and complexity, between orderliness and randomness (Retrieved from http://www.inc...

Complexity Theory and Collagist Approach in Geomorphic Systems Introduction Now, scientists know the world as complex systems that predict consequences of it is so difficult. In this situation, the systems operated by rotation manner in which chaos is order and discipline leads to chaos. Nowadays, simple idea of how the world work change and convert to complex and paradoxical idea. This i...
متن کاملUniversal Grammar and Chaos/Complexity Theory: Where Do They Meet And Where Do They Cross?
Abstract The present study begins by sketching "Chaos/Complexity Theory" (C/CT) and its applica-tion to the nature of language and language acquisition. Then, the theory of "Universal Grammar" (UG) is explicated with an eye to C/CT. Firstly, it is revealed that CCT may or may not be allied with a theory of language acquisition that takes UG as the initial state of language acquisition for ...
متن کاملFostering Creative Transformations in Organizations with Chaos
This chapter introduces the Chaos Theory of Careers (Pryor & Bright, 2003b, 2011) as applied to organizational behavior. The authors argue that organizations and the people within them can be usefully thought of as complex dynamical open systems – or strange attractors. From this perspective, organizational behavior can be understood in chaos terms such as attractors, fractal patterns, nonlinea...
متن کاملHuman excellence in the information security: a complexity theory perspective
Information technology has become an indispensable part of the business world today. Organizations have been dependent to information it more than ever. Such dependency has been followed by its own information security issues. Specialists have highlighted the critical role of human and organizational factors. The employees should be creative in relation with information security. In this way, c...
